At Prefleuri we have adopted the maths mastery approach to ensure that each pupil can develop a deep and secure knowledge and understanding of mathematics at each stage of their learning.
Pupils will acquire mastery of mathematical facts, concepts, and understanding, enabling them to move into secondary school with a solid foundation. This inclusive approach with its emphasis on promoting multiple methods of solving a problem, builds self-confidence and resilience in pupils.
Progression is focussed on understanding and developing greater depth than on mere progression to the next set of content. It has been proven that children’s chances of success are maximised if they develop deep and lasting understanding of mathematical procedures and concepts. Maths mastery is a journey that the teacher and pupils go on together to fill gaps, and deepen understanding and reasoning. Mastery is achieved when a child is able to tackle unfamiliar word problems and undertake complex reasoning using the correct mathematical vocabulary.
