French National Curriculum
The French section of Préfleuri offers, in a caring environment, education to meet the academic requirements for transition to secondary systems in France or French-speaking part of Switzerland.
The French section rigorously follows the French national curriculum from CP (cours préparatoire, 11th grade, 6 to 7 year olds) to 6th grade (first year of collège or Junior High, 11 to 12 year olds).
Our pupils learn their basic foundation skills through the primary curriculum and are well prepared to start their secondary education full of confidence.
Your child’s personal development and fulfillment are our priorities.

Engaging Curriculum
All subjects are taught in French; Our students also receive, three hours a week of English as a Second language which is provided by our English-speaking teachers. Each afternoon, a bilingual French/English programme is provided. Geography, History and Moral & Civic education, are taught in French by our French teachers, and Science and Computing are taught in English by our English teachers.
The French and English classes are merged and children from both sections are in class together according to age. This bilingual education, of undeniable cultural richness, develops a real openness in our students.
From the CM1 (cours moyen première année, 8th grade, 9-10 year olds), we also introduce German in order to meet the requirements of the Swiss program.
Qualified teachers, experienced in their field, provide creative and engaging lessons.
Individual Approach
To ensure an individual approach, all of our classes are small, with 6 to 12 pupils per class. Tasks are tailored to meet the needs of each pupil. A thoughtful and engaging curriculum ignites curious minds whilst deepening their understanding of core subjects.
Children are happiest, and learn best, when the topic has meaning and relevance to them. Children are encouraged to be active learners. Rather than sitting back and listening, children are given opportunities to question, discuss ideas, research, problem solve, engage, and think for themselves.
Through individual, group, and paired work, pupils can develop their critical-thinking, communication skills, and decision making. Public speaking is encouraged throughout all of the year groups. Opportunities are provided where pupils can present their work to the class, to the whole school, and to the public during our themed meals, assemblies and theatre performances.
Bilingualism in the French Curriculum
At Préfleuri the learning environment is one where children are encouraged to ‘have a go’, to experiment, to learn and build from errors, to be active learners who ask questions, and can communicate and interact with others. This is particularly important when learning their second language whether it be in French or English.
Within the school day we provide many opportunities for our students to be immersed in each language helping to develop their confidence and embed their language acquisition. In general the English-speaking members of staff will always communicate in English, whereas the French members of staff will communicate in French. This way the children will experience both languages in every-day situations.
During our themed meals and assemblies, pupils have numerous opportunities to make talks and presentations to a caring and attentive community.
Daily Program
On top of this general every day emersion our students have:
Mornings: 3 hours a week of structured FSL lessons.
Afternoons: a bilingual French/English programme is provided. Geography and History are taught in French by our French teachers, and Science and Computing are taught in English by our English teachers. The French and English classes are merged and children from both sections are in class together according to age.
With passion and enthusiasm, our teachers bring subjects to life and develop the trust and respect of every child to help them reach their full potential.
